Do you have a story inside you? Do you have flash drives and binders filled with your own creative works? Have you ever wondered whether you had what it takes to get your work published? On Saturday, November 1st, the Union Township library is hosting a program featuring ten local authors and publishing experts who have done just that!
From 10 AM to 12 Noon, four local Fiction authors will discuss their journeys to writing and publishing their works, and will answer questions from the audience. Speakers include Kathy L. Coogan, author of the short story collection
Babies’ Breath; Lori Todd, author of
Silver Links, a fantasy set in Ireland; P.G. Simmons, author of
Pride Power Passion,
Subtle Touch of Fate, and
Gathering Shadows, historical romances; and Franklin Clermont, author of
The Voices at CERN, a science fiction novel. After the morning Fiction panel, the authors will sign and sell their work to all interested attendees.
From 12 Noon to 12:45, anyone interested in sharing their work, Fiction or Nonfiction, can do so at the Noon Open Mic; five minutes per person.
From 1 PM to 1:45 PM, Carol Cartaino, editor-in-chief for Writer’s Digest books and a freelance editor, will speak to attendees on traditional and non-traditional publishing.
From 2 PM to 4 PM, four local Nonfiction authors will discuss their path into publishing their works, and sign and sell their work after the panel. The afternoon Nonfiction panel spotlights are John Hunt, the author of
Walking with Jason and founder of the Jason William Hunt Foundation; Vicki Watkins, author of
Against the Tide, a collection of poetry chronicling her journey of grief, love, and humor; Keith Maginn, the author of two memoirs,
Turning This Thing Around and
Goodwill Tour: Paying it Forward; and finally, Constance Breitbeil, publisher and friend of the late Frank M. Lee, who was the author of
Nekkid, a memoir about growing up with polio in rural Tennessee. Eric Grippa, whose book
What Did You Say? chronicles the unbelievable things his high school students have said over the years, will also sign and sell his work.
To cap off the events of the day, the library is hosting a special second Open Mic from 4 PM to 4:45 PM for anyone interested in sharing their work, Fiction or Nonfiction; five minutes per person.
