...A New Art Show is on Display?
...An Opening Reception Will Take Place Thursday, April 26?!
We will host an opening reception for artist Dorrel Harrison on Thursday, April 26from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Harrison's exhibit features his unique three dimensional barn plaque works. Please join us for the opening reception or come see the show any time during normal business hours in the second floor gallery. The traveling exhibit will be on display at the library until June 5.
Harrison, a retired educator and photographer moved from upstate New York in 2003 to Southern Indiana. A member of the Scott County Arts Council, Harrison sponsored several county-wide classic barn contests in 2007 and introduced his three dimensional barn plaques as prizes. In 2008, he was designated an Indiana Artisan and is the only one in Scott County! His unique three dimensional art work has been viewed by many Hoosiers. Harrison's barn plaques have been at the Indiana State Museum store, IN State Fair, Madison Table Works, Madison, IN, and Branson, Mo. His success story has been covered by the AMAC, Southern Indiana Living Magazine, Extol and several local newspapers. In 2012, Harrison's Scott County barn plaques became a permanent free public exhibit at the Mid-America Science Park in Scottsburg, IN. In 2016, Harrison and several other barn lovers developed the 2016 Bicentennial Barn Project. Over 200 Hoosiers entered the project endorsed by the IN Bicentennial Commission by submitting barn images online with their heritage stories. All entries were presented with a bicentennial sign. In addition, the top ten winners of the project received a customized framed barn plaque donated by Harrison. A traveling tour in 2017-2018 and beyond will continue to celebrate Hoosier barn heritage.
