"What Makes the August 21st Great American Eclipse So Great?"
Wednesday, August 16
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Solar experts Ken Alderson and Tom Bibb of the Louisville Astronomical Society (LAS) will be here to answer your questions about this once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event when the moon moves between the earth and the sun on August 21 at 2:27 p.m., obscuring 96% of our private star! Alderson and Bibb will give a Power Point presentation on the Eclipse, practice with you on how to observe the eclipse safely using solar glasses for eye protection, how to build a pinhole projector out of a cardboard box, and what to expect on Eclipse Day. Free solar glasses will be provided and, weather permitting, solar telescopes will be available to view the sun as it awaits its big show. Practice makes perfect, and we want you to have a perfect solar eclipse experience! For more information on the 2017 Great American Eclipse, go to the LAS website at www.louisville-astro.org.
"Eclipse on the Terrace"
Monday, August 21
1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Join us on Eclipse Day for a viewing party on the upstairs terrace! Special eclipse-themed music and activities will keep you occupied until the big event! We will have a limited number of glasses to hand out on this day. For that reason, glasses will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Thank you for your understanding.
