Director's Corner - Alexis McKenzie
|
|
I am thrilled to find myself working as the Acting Director of the Strathmore Municipal Library. My love for books, people, and libraries has lead me to work in both public and academic settings - yet, because of the public sector's strong connection to the community, that is where my passion has always been. Serving my community, and especially my library, has been a central theme in my life. I grew up in a small town in the rural section of Abbotsford, B.C. Since then, I've acquainted myself with the rest of Canada. My travels have including spending time in Vancouver as I worked towards my Bachelor's degree in English Literature, time at McGill University in Montreal where I received my Master's in Library and Information Science, then to Saskatoon, and finally, to Calgary. I have volunteered at and worked in libraries in each of these locations. Strathmore is a special place to me because it reminds me of the close-knit town that I grew up in. I look forward to serving the community here and supporting the impressive number of services and activities that are available through the library. Please come by and say hello to me. I look forward to getting to know all of the library's members, and of course talking to you about books! Lately, my favourite reads have been "Red Notice" by Bill Browder and "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. I like books that open up my mind to new possibilities. Bonus points if it makes me laugh or cry! I look forward to hearing about your recommendations, too. See you at the library!
