This Month at the Library: February
We are settling into the New Year at the library; the holidays are well behind us and the glimmer of longer days ahead of us (!!!!!). February is often associated with love, and we are celebrating any way we can. Skill Craft has prepared a Pop Up Valentines Card program on February 8 (Registration is Required), and School PD Days will be creating gifts for our loved ones. February also marks Family Day, which brings more love! Love for a much anticipated long weekend and of course a day where there are no parties to attend like it's Christmas, no special dinners that you are expected to make like Thanksgiving, or even cards you need to give out like Valentine's Day. It is a day where the only thing you have to do is spend an extra day with those you love most, this does not mean your biological family necessarily, it can mean your chosen family too, your friends! So whether you are grabbing a book on DIY Valentine's Day Cards, or grabbing an extra DVD before Family Day (or perhaps getting a book on relaxation before you see your family on the 16), why not spread your love at the library! There is nothing we love more than our patrons, Happy Love Month everyone!

Announcements from Marigold Library System
Marigold has declared February 22-28, 2015 as Freedom to Read Week. Freedom to Read Week is important. Freedom to choose what to read, hear or watch is critical, so that people can make informed decisions. Every day, somewhere in Canada, a library responds to a challenge about a book or other materials. Learn more about intellectual freedom and the issues surrounding freedom to read at www.freedomtoread.ca One of the most challenged books in North America each year is "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. Headlines were made in early 2011, with the announcement that the new edition of the classic would have certain words removed and replaced with the word 'slave'. The book takes place in the late 19th Century and portrays the way that African Americans were treated and spoken to during that time. Using certain words to identify certain races and cultures is unacceptable, but the book is demonstrating how African Americans were treated during the Civil War period and should not be changed or removed from history. Freedom to Read Week is sponsored by Canada's book and magazine producers, distributors and readers and is supported by Marigold, The Canadian Library Association, and the Library Association of Alberta. ******************************************************************************************************************** NEW E-RESOURCE AVAILABLE THROUGH YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY From the Creators of THE KEY Study Guides: SOLARO provides study help & exam prep for Alberta Curriculum classes for students and parents Grades 3-12: Mathematics English Language Arts Science You can access Solaro from www.marigold.ab.ca/eresources

Last Month at the Library: January
2015 has started off well here at the library, between new programs starting and welcoming back some favourites, we have been having a blast. This month saw the return of Movie Night, Knit Night, and Storytimes after our Holiday Hiatus. You've been asking, and we listened: We are now offering TWO storytimes on weekends! We are so excited to welcome a new storytime "Stories on Sunday" (see above for more details). We also have moved our L'heure Du Conte to Saturday mornings at 10:30am. We can't wait to see you more on the weekends! January also saw our Clothes Swap, and we are happy to report it was a great success! We had many more donations than we were expecting, and people left with some great new and FREE finds! The staff were very happy to have Rebekah Enarson, a student from SAIT completing her Library Technician Diploma join us for three lovely weeks. Rebekah got to have an inside look on all we do here at the library, and it is safe to say that wherever she ends up and whatever library she is working for, they will be very lucky to have her! Thanks for all your help Rebekah and the best of luck finishing your studies! You really brightened our little library!
