"I immigrated to Canada as a self-employed, cash-strapped professional with young children. Canmore Public Library was my family's most valuable source of affordable entertainment during the first, most difficult year as we were settling in the new country. My young kids loved to shop in the library to rent a new movie for their movie night, and as they're entering their teen years now they still love events such as Summer Reading Games. For myself the library was a great source of knowledge about Canadian culture and values, and my partner gained a great deal of communication skills through the Adult Conversation Groups running in the library."

Libraries are a relevant and valuable part of any community and they can have quite an impact on someone's life. Despite their importance, there are times when library funding my be difficult to obtain or simply unavailable.
With this in mind, we are so happy to announce the establishment of the Canmore Public Library Endowment Fund thanks to the generous support of founding donors Elliott and Margie Bingham and the Friends of the Canmore Public Library.
Library staff, Board members members of the Banff Canmore Community Foundation, Friends of the Canmore Library, Town Admin and Council attended a celebration at the library on
February 21 to announce the establishment of the
Canmore Library Endowment Fund.
We at the Library are very grateful to Elliott and Margie Bingham and the Friends of the Canmore Library for giving us this chance to grow and evolve to meet the ever changing needs of the community.

How have Libraries made a difference in your life?
"My mother began taking me to libraries when I was very young. I was so young, I didn't know the alphabet. The libraries were always quiet, and peaceful. It was great: no one told me what to do; no one told me which book to pick, or not pick; no one asked if I was a good girl. The times my brothers weren't with us felt especially like a treat. Mom and I went to the big main branch library, and small district libraries. All of them felt safe and undemanding. Through the years, wherever I've gone, whenever I feel a little lost, I find a library to find myself."

"Why I believe in libraries? As a brand new 16-year-old Malaysian foreign student in Winnipeg, the University of Winnipeg library provided me with a place of solitude and an open door to a whole universe of knowledge, information and most important, the rules of Ice Hockey and Canadian Football. This new-found sports knowledge allowed me to engage in lunch time chit chat with fellow students and that's how I made new friends and became a Winnipeg Jets fan."
