Studio 21c is delighted to welcome Bob Lord to our volunteer instructing staff! Bob has been heavily involved with the audio industry for many years including live sound engineering and production. Bob is currently a board of directors and production-team member for The Black Rose Acoustic Society and is a voting member of the National Audio Engineering Society. Bob will be teaching various audio courses with the first one focusing on microphone selection and the Tascam digital recorder located in the studio isolation booth.

Learn about the selection of microphones offered at the C³ Center for Public Media studio including dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones, best uses and practices for each, polar patterns, and microphone placement. Learn basic isolation booth setup and the nuts and bolts of audio studio configuration. He currently volunteers teaching free audio classes to students at studio 21c! This month Paul will be teaching the Introduction to Avid ProTools class.

Avid ProTools has been the leading industry standard software in recording, editing and mixing audio for the past 15+ years. The Intro to Mixing in ProTools class is an in-depth review of basic mixing techniques including EQ, Compression, Gates, FX, and setting Pans/Levels. The class will show the progression of mixing from Start (importing tracks) to Finish (finalizing the mix for Mastering). Each attendee will receive a link to download the session to practice their own mixing as well as a copy of the final mix from class. Studio Orientation Interested in using Studio 21c for your own personal or financial project? Whether you're creating your first masterpiece or are a seasoned professional, Studio 21c offers the tools to produce original content for television, radio, and the web. The Studio 21c Orientation course guides patrons through studio policies, safety and procedures while serving as the first step toward the certification necessary to use the facility independently.
This course is required training to use Studio 21c. Attendees under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent. Click on a date below to register. Camera & Lighting 101 A basic introduction to studio camera and lighting. Completion of this course provides certification to utilize in-studio cameras and lights, as well as to check out video equipment. Prerequisite: Studio 21c Orientation course. Additional courses may be required to check out equipment. Video Editing Basics with Premiere Petritz Learning Lab, 2nd floor, Library 21c For those new to video editing, this introductory class will get you up and running with Adobe Premiere CC. We will cover a range of topics from navigating the interface, importing assets, working with sequences and timelines, applying titles and effects, and exporting your finished edit. Prerequisite: Studio 21c Orientation course. Intro To Digital Photography Learn the basics of digital photography with photographer Jay Billups. The course includes an overview of exposure, shutter speed, depth of field, and manual vs. auto settings. No cameras necessary for this course. The Art of Flash Photography Learn how to use flash to improve your images. Flash can produce harsh, unflattering lighting that can create unpleasant photos. This course covers methods to improve your results from the built-in-flash and add-on-flashes. We'll cover fill-flash, key light, bouncing and using off camera flashes. You will need to have an understanding of the exposure triangle. The "Introduction to Basic Photograph" is highly recommended prior to this course and is offered every second Tuesday of the month. Questions during the course are welcome. The class focuses on the art of photography and less on the technical details. Cameras are not required for this course, but feel free to bring yours if you would like to practice. Wednesday, September 14 Show Us Your Shorts! is a quarterly indie short film screening hosted by the Peak Film Forum. This event is held in the Venue at Library 21c from 6 - 9 p.m. The event is open to all and submissions are welcome.
