Maker in Residence: Painting with Water-soluble Oils October 1, 1:30-3:30 p.m. If you want to try oil painting for the first time, or want to simplify the process of oil painting, this is a basic class using a simple 3 color palette. We will focus on values and mixing color as well as learning the medium of water-soluble oils on canvas. Ages 16 and up. Registration is required and can be done at www.ppld.org.

Calligraphy Basics October 7, 2-5:30 p.m. This introductory program will cover the various elements of calligraphy, with examples being provided for each of the two hands. Right- and left-handed attendees are both welcome! Supplies will be provided. Topics included will cover: • calligraphy terminology • how to set up a work area • proper nib preparation • pros and cons of the pointed pen and chisel edged pen • how to hold a pen (it varies, based on the nib!) • the best inks, gouache, acrylics and water colors for pointed and chisel edged pens • the different papers and how they react to the pen and ink • how to line your paper for the different sized nibs and the different slants. • how to make letter forms with each of the different pens

Maker in Residence: Creating Silicon Molds October 15, 2-4 p.m. In this class we, Charles and Tauni, will show you the basics of how to create a silicon mold. We will provide you with tips and techniques for getting a successful mold. Your mold can be used to create replicas of an item using plastic resins and other materials. During class time we will show a single part mold and during studio time (offered at Library 21C) we will discuss 2 part molds. Ages 12 and up. Ages 12 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Registration is required and can be done at www.ppld.org.

Create Leather Jewelry October 21, 2:30-5:30 p.m. (30 Minute Appointments)
Celebrate our APPR Teen Pick, Under a Painted Sky, by making leather jewelry using the laser cutter in the makerspace. Participants will have a choice between necklaces, cuffs, or bracelets.
Ages 12-18.

Alpaca Fleece Felting October 29, 1:30-3 p.m. Join us in MAKE @ East to learn the history of alpaca and fleece use in Peru and the art of felting! Participants will complete a project to take home. Ages 16 and up. Registration is required and can be done at www.ppld.org.

Teen and Tweens MAKEer Thursdays: Cake Pops October 26, 4:30-6 p.m. Every second and fourth Thursday of each month, we will MAKE something in the East Makerspace. This Thursday, we are celebrating the All Pikes Peaks Reads book, Under a Painted Sky! Come make some delicious cake pops! Ages 9-18. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult; both parties must register. Registration is required and can be done at www.ppld.org.

Teen and Tweens Tech Thursdays: Code the Oregon Trail with Bloxels
October 19, 4-6 p.m. This month in Tech Thursdays, we'll use a cool program called Bloxels to create an Oregon Trail themed game!
Curious about cool new tech like 3D printers or laser cutters? Want to try your hand at circuitry, programming, or robotics? All that and more on our Tech Thursdays! Ages 9-18. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult; both parties must register. Registration is required and can be done at www.ppld.org.

Knit One & Crochet Too October 4 and 18, 1:30-3 p.m. Bring a project to work on, share ideas, and socialize with fellow knitters and crocheters! No registration is required.

Drop-in Watercolor Painting October 4 and 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Amateur artists are invited to MAKE @ East to experiment with watercolors (watercolor paints, watercolor crayons, and watercolor pencils!) at this fun and informal drop-in program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend! Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

MAKE @ East Open Hours Mondays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays 6-9 p.m. Thursdays 6-9 p.m. Fridays 12-5 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. During Open Hours, MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult.
