Mess around with Sound What makes sound? How does it travel? Come and enjoy an interactive program about the basics of sound. We will do experiments with a Chladni plate, tuning forks, and other items as well as talk about the sound production of a stringed instrument. For ages 7 – 12.

During this fun program perfect for a wintery day, homeschoolers will learn about the Northern Lights, what causes this scientific phenomenon, where and when to see them, and create a Northern Lights art project using chalk pastels. For ages 6 – 12.

Epic Engineering Disasters: The Unsinkable Titanic When the British passenger liner, Titanic, set sail on its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912, it was the largest, most luxurious ship in the world. It was described as “unsinkable.” At this program, homeschoolers will learn about the history of the Titanic, examine the engineering mistakes made by the ship’s engineers, and test principles such as buoyancy and overflow.

3-D Koi Fish Masterpieces Homeschoolers will be introduced to the many variations of Japanese koi fish and their habitat, then create a 3-D koi, and paint it in realistically bright colors. Artists will design a splashing waterfall background to place the koi in, and may add their “signature” in Japanese characters as a finishing touch to their aquatic masterpiece. For ages 7-12.

Homeschool Science Fair Fri., 2/21 • 10 -11:30 a.m. • The Venue at Library 21c Create a project or stop by to browse and chat with the participants! Learn about a project and get a prize! Our annual Homeschool Science Fair is open to grades K-12! Homeschool students are invited to demonstrate a science project for other families. There are no rules or guidelines for this noncompetitive even, and planning is left up to individual families.

Spring Homeschool Art Show at East LibraryIt's time to get creative! Homeschoolers can submit one artwork (drawing, painting, sculpture, textile, etc.) during late March (3/22-3/30) for this non-juried exhibit. Please drop off items at East Library Children's Department. Artwork will be displayed throughout April with a reception in early May. Contact Joy at Jfleishhacker@ppld.org for more information.
