If I were homeschooling in 2017, I would spend weeks of our school year on reading picture book biographies, no matter the age of the kids. We would read, we would discuss, and everyone would learn something new, including the parents! Picture book biographies focus on specific events, or strong character traits that lead to the eventual success of the person. How can you go wrong, reading about people who worked hard to succeed? Enjoy! - Melody

Dorothea's Eyes : Dorothea Lange Photographs the Truth by Barb RosenstockA poetic introduction to the life and achievements of a founder of documentary photography describes the disability that inspired Dorothea Lange's photography career and her efforts to raise awareness about the unseen victims of the Great Depression. Can you imagine a time when women were NOT photographers? I find it difficult to comprehend. Dorothea Lange's most famous photos are included at the back of the book. Hooray for authors who are able to include the real works of the book's subject! - Melody Ages 8-18 Biography: 1895-1965, persistence
