Maker in Residence: Zines and the History of Independent Publishing Have you ever heard of zines? Zines are a type of self-published, hand-assembled booklets often used for self-expression and idea sharing. This course will introduce, discuss, and briefly outline the history of American independent publishing, followed by a hands-on demonstration in which attendees will create their own zines! Drop-in Watercolor Painting Amateur artists are invited to MAKE @ East to experiment with watercolors (watercolor paints, watercolor crayons, and watercolor pencils!) at this fun and informal drop-in program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend! Local artist and instructor Jim Roth will be on hand to help and inspire. Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

Sewing 101
Everything you've ever wanted to know about sewing basics will be covered in this class. Sewing 101 will give you the skills and confidence to set you on your way to meeting your sewing goals, or to refresh your memory if it's been a while since you last sewed! Attendees will learn the functions and threading of the sewing machine, discuss basic stitches, various tools of the trade, plus all of the basics about fabrics, marking, pinning, cutting, and pressing while making a fun, reversible tote bag! Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.
