3-D Koi Fish Masterpieces Homeschoolers will be introduced to the many variations of Japanese koi fish and their habitat, then create a 3-D koi, and paint it in realistically bright colors. Artists will design a splashing waterfall background to place the koi in, and may add their “signature” in Japanese characters as a finishing touch to their aquatic masterpiece. For ages 7-12. Registration is required for both the High Prairie program and the Calhan program.

Spark your child’s interest in history by way of simple STEAM activities. Work together or independently at multiple activity stations to better understand how ancient Egyptians lived. For ages 7-12.

During this fun program perfect for a wintery day, homeschoolers will learn about the Northern Lights, what causes this scientific phenomenon, where and when to see them, and create a Northern Lights art project using chalk pastels. For ages 5 – 12.

Mess around with Sound What makes sound? How does it travel? Come and enjoy an interactive program about the basics of sound. We will do experiments with a Chladni plate, tuning forks, and other items as well as talk about the sound production of a stringed instrument. For ages 7 – 12.

Epic Engineering Disasters: The Unsinkable Titanic When the British passenger liner, Titanic, set sail on its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912, it was the largest, most luxurious ship in the world. It was described as “unsinkable.” At this program, homeschoolers will learn about the history of the Titanic, examine the engineering mistakes made by the ship’s engineers, and test principles such as buoyancy and overflow. For ages 5-12.

Homeschool Science @ East: The Science and Wonder of Aviation Join the educators from The National Museum of WWII Aviation to learn about the courage, heroism, and innovation that changed the course of world history. Students will investigate the science and engineering behind flight and explore historical profiles of WWII heroes. Age-directed activities will range from identifying planes by simple shapes for our youngest future pilots to advanced aircraft design and a simulated flight operation for older students. **Homeschool families are invited to follow up this program with a free visit to the museum in April and extension activities.** Check out the Museum's website.

Coming Soon! Homeschool Science Fair Fri., 2/21 • 10 -11:30 a.m. • The Venue at Library 21c Our annual Homeschool Science Fair is open to grades K-12! Homeschool students are invited to demonstrate a science project for other families. There are no rules or guidelines for this noncompetitive even, and planning is left up to individual families.
