Call for Art! The call for art is an event that happens a couple of times a year in order to gather artists to show in PPLD's galleries around the district. This fall will be a combination of digital submissions and a physical drop-off, pick-up day. This is the first time that we will be accepting digital submissions. - When: Fri., Sept. 27, physical submission drop-off 10 a.m – 1 p.m. Pick-up 4 – 6 p.m.

This Call is going to be a combination of digital submissions and a day of physical drop-offs and pick-ups. The Pikes Peak Library District Art Evaluation Committee will be reviewing art for future 1 - 2 month shows by individual artists. Bring 5 pieces of art in show ready format (matted, framed, and wired). Please bring a completed Art Exhibit Application to submissions drop off (below).

Calligraphy: Beginner Copperplate
Learn the beautiful art of calligraphy! This class will teach the beginner how to write the hand of Copperplate. We will be writing with a pointed pen that is dipped into ink as they did 100's of years ago. We will learn the basics of lining your paper, slant lines, proportions, using different papers and inks. Copperplate is used for wedding invitations, envelopes, place cards, certificates and much more. When you register, you are registering for all the dates listed above (4 Tuesday evening sessions from Oct 1 - 22). Commitment to all 4 classes is required. Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.

Maker in Residence: Mixed Media Collage Art This class will come alive with “Colors of Hope” through colorful papers, paints, stenciling, plaster, and words of hope. Learn how to layer paper, decorative napkins, and paint washes, then add texture using modeling paste and plaster for a unique assemblage look. Create a three-dimensional effect by incorporating objects such as jewels, paper flowers, tiles, and ephemera. Each participant will learn a variety of mixed media techniques and will leave the class with a unique piece of art. Please help ensure that other patrons have the opportunity to participate in this program by only registering for one session. Please also visit with Roxanne Lingle and see her work on a special mixed media project at Library 21c for Meet the Maker in Residence on select dates from September 7 - October 10! Ages 16 and up. Drop-in Watercolor Painting Amateur artists are invited to MAKE @ East to experiment with watercolors (watercolor paints, watercolor crayons, and watercolor pencils!) at this fun and informal drop-in program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend! Local artist and instructor Jim Roth will be on hand to help and inspire. Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

Quilted Table Runners: A 2-Part Series At this two-part class series, attendees will learn how to quilt a seasonal table runner using fall or winter/holiday themed fabrics. In the process, attendees will learn how to follow a pattern and will get hands-on with rotary cutting, piecing, and other sewing basics while maintaining a 1/4" seam allowance to add backing and binding! All supplies provided. Basic sewing experience is helpful, but not required. All skill levels welcome. When you register, you are registering for both of the dates listed above (2 Saturday afternoon sessions from Oct 5 - 12). Commitment to both classes is required. Ages 16 and up. Maker Monday Creative programming designed for Adults. All materials provided. Felt Cup Cozy Use felt pieces to craft a custom, soft cozy for all your warm drinks this fall. No-Carve Decorating Baby Pumpkins Baby pumpkins are so delightful, but so difficult to carve. We'll provide a few fun suggestions on how to decorate your tiny gourd for the holidays. Pumpkin Soap Make and mold soap into pumpkin shapes. Found Object Art October is arts month! Show off your skills by creating your own work of art using everyday items that might otherwise be thrown away. Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.

Beginning Frame Loom Weaving Learn all you need to know to start weaving independently on a small frame loom at the cumulative class series. Warping, weaving, plain weave, hand-manipulated lace weaves, hemstitching plus finishing - these are only a few of the techniques attendees will learn. Over the 4-week series, attendees will weave several different patterns and textures joining the squares together to make a fun and colorful scarf. When you register, you are registering for all of the dates listed above (4 Tuesday sessions from October 8 - 29). Commitment to all 4 classes is required for completion of the scarf. Ages 16 and up. Intro to TinkerCAD: Nameplates Learn to create your own 3D designs with the free software TinkerCAD! Each participant will design a custom 3D nameplate. You will need to return at a later date to use the 3D printer to print your nameplate. The cost of the print will be covered by the library. Ages 13 and up. Registration is required.

Gelli Plates: A 2-Part Series Capture the luminous colors of fall in this two-part art workshop featuring Gelli plate printing and collage. Participants will use natural seasonal items and colors to create papers in the first class. Then in the second class, participants will use the papers they made in the first class along with text and ephemera to create finished collage pieces. Participation in both classes is required to complete the final collage pieces. Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.

Maker in Residence: Comics and Sequential Art This course is designed to provide a basic introduction to sequential art. Participants will learn how to create a comic page and will be able to tell a story through images. This course will cover critical lessons for comic creators, and is useful for all skill levels. Please help ensure that other patrons have the opportunity to participate in this program by only registering for one session. Please also visit with Tarikh and see him work on a digital comic project! Tarikh will be available at Library 21c for Meet the Maker in Residence Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.
