Navigating the Internet Tuesday April 7th and Thursday April 9th from 1:30 - 3:30 pm Learn how to effectively navigate the Internet by discovering how to operate various internet browsers, conduct internet searches, avoid malicious content and scams, and discover high quality internet resources. In this course, each individual will setup an email account and learn how to use all the tools at their disposal to send and retrieve electronic mail safely and efficiently. Ever wanted to learn computer programming? Are you curious about how websites or cell phone apps are made? Maybe you have an awesome idea for a program, but are not sure how to make it come to life? Begin your journey in coding during our Hour of Code sessions. A Cora J. Belden staff member will be present to assist participants in using Code Academy, a powerful online resource for learning computer programming. Sign up is required for each session. Getting Started with Library eBooks and Digital Content Wednesday, April 8th 6:00 pm

Come to the Cora J. Belden Library on Wednesday, April 8th to learn how to download the library’s e-books / audiobooks and other digital content to your mobile devices! This program will be split up into three 30 minute sessions, with each segment focusing on a specific kind of device. We will cover Apple devices (i.e. iPhones, iPads, etc.) at 6:00 pm, Android devices (Galaxy, Droid, etc.) at 6:30 pm, and Amazon Kindle (Fire, Paperwhite, etc.) devices at 7:00 pm. We encourage you to bring your device with you to follow the process step by step. Sign up is not required, just drop in.

Celebrate National Poetry Month Poetry Reading and Open Mic Night Wednesday, April 15 6:30 pm

Co-sponsored by the Cora J. Belden Library and the Middletown Chapter of the CT Poetry Society File your taxes early and come join us for a reading of original contemporary poetry that spans from the philosophical and surrealistic to edgy and humorous. This program will feature Connecticut poets Bil Burling, Charles Chase, Margaret Plaganis, and Pamela Guinan. The Open Mic portion of the program offers the audience an opportunity to add a personal touch to the celebration by reading an original or favorite poem of their own. While dressing in actual vintage and authentically reproduced undergarments, clothing and accessories, Kandie Carle adds humor, history and intriguing anecdotes about fashion, home life and etiquette of men and women during the 1900s - Edwardian Era. The VICTORIAN LADY program brings to light some of the differences as well as some of the similarities between us and our Victorian ancestors. A visual delight resplendent with wit and grace it is a refreshing view of a magnificent era in history. The Program includes audience participation and questions are encouraged throughout.

SCORE - Business Counseling Sessions1st Monday of each month, 12:30 pm-4:30 pm(1 hour appointments) The library is now partnering with SCORE - a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE has nearly 50 years of experience in providing mentors, workshops, counseling and tools for growing businesses. SCORE is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration. One hour counseling appointments are available at the library on the 1st Monday of every month.

Tuesday, April 14 10:30 - 11:15 pm Once Upon a Pea Join Miss Alex for stories and gardening. For ages 2 and up with an adult. Registration Required. Limit 24 children. 2 - 3 pm Build & Take Join Miss Cathy to build a model bike or plane. Work one-on-one with your adult to make a working model. Kits and tools will be provided. Teen Anime Club Wednesday, April 22 6:30 pm

Teens in grades 6-12, are you a fan of anime, manga, or even just comic books and graphic novels? If so, or even if you are just curious, come join us for a meeting of our anime club at the library. Meet new friends with similar interests, discuss your favorite anime books and movies, and settle down to watch an anime show together. Snacks will be provided, so join us for this fun and laid back event. Sign up is not required, so just drop in!

Teen Advisory Board Wednesday, April 29 6:30 pm

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of teens who meet once a month to make the library the best place it can be for fellow teens. For example, the group comes up with cool programs for teens, makes suggestions for developing the library's teen collection (books, movies, CD's, etc.), and designs displays for the teen section, among others. or ask for Mike at the Information Desk. Registration not required.

Scholarship Available The Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library encourage all eligible high school seniors to apply for the Friends' scholarship. Application is online. Deadline is April 22. Donations Needed Spring Cleaning? The Friends of the Library are looking for gently used books, DVDs & CDs for their semi-annual sale. All donation may be put in bin in lobby of the Library. Donations will be accepted until April 26 and then starting again on May 5. Thank you for your support (and your stuff!)
