Having a Connecticut Staycation this summer? Explore museums in Connecticut and Massachusetts via the Friends of the Library Museum Pass Program, sponsored by the Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library. The program provides passes to area museums and attractions. The pass program requires patrons have a valid adult library card.
New for Summer 2014: Several museum passes are now available through a new "print on demand" program on the library's website. Anyone with internet access can reserve a museum pass online up to 60 days in advance. Passes for select museums can be printed instantly, eliminating the need to pick up or return the pass. Library patrons who do not own a home printer can print passes at the library, and museum passes are still available for reservation in person or over the phone. Several museums, including the popular Beardsley Zoo pass and the State of Connecticut Park Pass, still require a physical pass that may be checked out for up to 3 days.
Many thanks to the Friends of the Library for supporting this great program. Help ensure that the museum pass program continues - consider joining the Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library today.

50 Days of Summer
The average length of the northern hemisphere summer, calculated as the average time from the June solstice until the September equinox, is about 93 days. However, at the library we calculate summer a little bit differently. Summer for us starts the day school ends and ends the day school goes back into session. The library will be open 50 days in July and August and we have an exciting array of programs for all ages. We are continuing with some of our favorite programs - including adult lecture programs (promises to be delicious), Book Buddies and Kindergarten Welcome - and trying out lots of new things. The library has partnered with Google and MakerCamp to bring teens in grades 6-12 a wealth of fun projects throughout the summer, including themes such as Do-It-Yourself Music, Game Creation, and Technology. Children's Librarian Cathy Potter will be inviting Science Explorers and Mini Science Explorers to have fun with experiments. The children's room will also have some "special guests" visiting (and not all of them the two legged kind of guest!)
Space limitations does not permit us to list everything that is going on at the library this summer. I invite you to peruse our calendar, download our summer reading brochures and just swing by to see how the summer at the library is humming!
Happy Reading! Mary Hogan, Library Director
