Getting Started with Library e-Books and Digital Content Wednesday, January 7 6:00 pm
|

Did you receive a new phone or tablet over the holiday season, and are wondering how you can use it to download the library’s e-books / audiobooks and other digital content like magazines? Come to the library on Wednesday, January 7th to learn how! This program will be split up into three 30 minute sessions, with each segment focusing on a specific kind of device. We will cover Apple devices (i.e. iPhones, iPads, etc.) at 6:00 pm, Android devices (Galaxy, Droid, etc.) at 6:30 pm, and Amazon Kindle (Fire, Paperwhite, etc.) devices at 7:00 pm. We encourage you to bring your device with you to follow the process step by step. Workshop will be led by Cora J. Belden Reference Librarian Michael Murphy Sign up is not required, just drop in.

Getting Started With MAC OS X Wednesday, January 21 6:30 pm

Have you purchased a new Mac desktop or laptop, or are you thinking of making the switch from a Windows computer to an Apple computer? Are you having trouble navigating your computer or accomplishing the same tasks you used to with a Windows machine? Come to this introductory technology session where you will be guided through the basics of the Mac OS X interface, which runs on Mac computers and laptops. (Note: This session will NOT help you with either an iPad, iPhone, or iPod). Feel free to bring your Mac laptop. Workshop will be led by Cora J. Laughter Yoga is the practice of using laughter as exercise. It is an incredibly fun, incredibly easy way to release stress and bring more joy into your life. People of all physical abilities and ages can do it (with only a few exceptions). Laughter Yoga has been recommended by Dr. Oz, Dr. Andrew Weil, and Oprah. SCORE - Business Counseling Sessions1st Monday of each month, 12:30 pm-4:30 pm(1 hour appointments) The library is now partnering with SCORE - a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE has nearly 50 years of experience in providing mentors, workshops, counseling and tools for growing businesses. SCORE is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration. One hour counseling appointments are available at the library on the 1st Monday of every month.

The 2015 Preschool and Family Day Care Expo! Wednesday, January 14 6-7:30 pm

This event will offer local parents the opportunity to research preschool programs in the Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Newington, Wethersfield and Hartford communities in one informal evening. Program Directors or teachers will be sharing information with parents regarding their preschool’s philosophy, teacher/child ratio, tuition schedule and program structure. Application materials and leaflets will be available to take home. Family Day Care Home Providers will also be present. Teen Advisory Board Tuesday, January 20 6:30 pm The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of teens who meet once a month to make the library the best place it can be for fellow teens. For example, the group comes up with cool programs for teens, makes suggestions for developing the library's teen collection (books, movies, CD's, etc.), and designs displays for the teen section, among others. or ask for Mike at the Information Desk. Registration not required.

Are you a fan of anime, manga, or even just comic books and graphic novels? If so, or even if you are just curious, come join us for a meeting of our new anime club at the library. Meet new friends with similar interests, discuss your favorite anime books and movies, and settle down to watch an anime show together. Snacks will be provided, so join us for this fun and laid back event. Sign up is not required, so just drop in!
