A workshop led by Jo Anne Harrison-Becker “Giving Thanks” focuses on the power of thankfulness; the importance of being thankful for the little pleasures in life; how daily thoughts of gratitude contribute to our health and well-being; why every day should be a day of Thanksgiving; how to have a thankful heart; and how to keep a gratitude journal. “Giving Thanks” “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Melody Beattie

Tavern Signs: Art & Advertising in Early America Tuesday, November 18 6:30 pm
Richard C. Malley, Head of Research and Collections, will share stories of taverns and inns in a program featuring examples of the Connecticut Historical Society’s unparalleled sign collection. Treasured today as examples of folk art, tavern and inn signs of the 18th and 19th centuries were part of the local landscape in America. Such signs incorporated eye-catching symbols designed to attract business, both from locals and travelers. These establishments provided not simply food and lodging (for man and horse), but also entertainment, and a place to meet and exchange news of the day. Sponsored by the Friends of Cora J. Belden Library Registration Required
