Giant Children's Book Sale Saturday, September 17, 11 am-4:30 pm Early Admission @ 10 am for Friends' members. The Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library will be holding a GIGANTIC Children’s Book Sale on Saturday, September 17 from 11 am to 4:00 pm in the lower level of the Library. Members of Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library are eligible for early admission at 10 am. Thousands of children’s books – from picture books to chapter books will be on sale with most prices ranging from 50 cents to 1 dollar. Special deals will also be available so everyone is encouraged to come and stock up on some great reads!

The Friends of the Library will also be holding their regular (all ages) book sale on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.

ELEVATOR ISSUES The elevator at the Cora J. Belden Library in Rocky Hill is scheduled to have final inspections the first full week of September. At this time we do not have an exact date for normal operations. In the meantime, library staff are taking steps to assist library-goers to access materials, programs and other services during times when the elevator is out of service. Yet, this period is only cursorily covered in the state’s secondary school curriculum. In fact, Connecticut provides an important laboratory for the global study of human adaptation to changing social and natural environments. Learn about black bears in Connecticut with Felicia Ortner! Tuesday, September 20, 2016 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM The black bear population has been growing rapidly in Connecticut for the last several years. Black bear sightings are becoming common. Come learn about these amazing survivors, who were once virtually extinct in the state of Connecticut! Felicia Ortner, a Connecticut Master Wildlife Conservationist, has been studying bears for more than 25 years. She will discuss some of the myths associated with bears, provide natural history information, and talk about some of the ways to keep bears from getting into your trash cans and bird feeders.

SCORE - Business Counseling Sessions1st Monday of each month, 12:30 pm-4:30 pm(1 hour appointments) (NOTE: Second Monday during months of July & September) The library is now partnering with SCORE - a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE has nearly 50 years of experience in providing mentors, workshops, counseling and tools for growing businesses. SCORE is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration. One hour counseling appointments are available at the library on the 1st Monday of every month.

Pokemon Go Safari Saturday September 10, 2016 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Library Front EntranceJoin us at the Cora J. Belden Library for a Pokemon GO Safari! This program will be for all ages. We will meet together at the main entrance of the library and as a group we will walk around the Rocky Hill municipal campus, visit the various Pokestops along the way and catch as many Pokemon as possible! We will be dropping lures and providing snacks and drinks at various Pokestops as well. Children grades 5 and under who attend must be accompanied by their parent / guardian. It's Curious George's 75th Birthday Friday, September 16 Our favorite monkey is turning 75 and we are having a party! You're invited! There will be refreshments and some special visitors for all ages to enjoy from 10am-1pm. We will also be having a party from 11 am-12 noon for children ages 1 to 5. Bring your stuffed animal to our 'hospital' to fix up any boo-boos, make a cute monkey mask, play some fun party games with the Man in the Yellow Hat, decorate a yummy treat, and take home some great goodies! The Friends of the Cora J. Belden Library now accepting donations of new or gently used books, cds, and dvds until September 24. Due to book sale set up, we are unable to accept donations between September 26 and October 3. Check out our collection guidelines to see what makes the best donations. Volunteers will be needed for the September 17, October 1 & October 2 book sales as well as for set up days on Friday, September 16 and Friday, September 30.
