Library Helps Combat "Summer Slide"Scholastic’s Kids and Family Reading Report discusses the importance of reading over the school breaks to prevent what is called the “summer slide.” This slide is a loss of academic skills during the time when school is not in session. The Cora J. Belden Library joins libraries across the country working hard to combat the summer slide by offering fun and rewarding summer reading programs as well as an array of hands on programs to spark curiosity and learning. New this year is our “ Read to Bead” program. Children start off with a chain and brag tag and receive beads for every 20 minutes of reading. Opportunities to “trade up” for special beads exist. Busy with summer vacation? No worries, you can sign up online and then come in later to pick up beads. READ ON!
