2015 Spring Edition
|
Dear Teachers, As the school year is winding down, the Library is ramping up for our annual summer reading club. The 2015 theme is Every Hero has a Story, and the program offers children, teens, and adults a variety of fun incentives for reading and the chance to participate in a range of educational programming. We all know how important it is for children to keep learning and reading over the summer—those who don’t can fall as much as three months behind their peers, and that gap can be cumulative year after year. Encourage your students to sign up for the 2015 Summer Reading Club at the Library!

Your students can earn great prizes for participating in the 2015 Summer Reading Club . The grand prize is a MEEP!X2 tablet. They can earn entry into the drawing by reading for 10 hours over the course of the summer. Your students should have already received an informational bookmark offering them early registration for the program—May 1. They can sign up online and then bring their registration confirmation into the Library to receive all of the information they need.

For the 6th year in a row, AudioFile and OverDrive are teaming up to present Sync Audio. This is an excellent program aimed at young adults—it pairs the audiobooks for current YA titles with a classic or a book often found on summer reading lists, and teens (or adults!) can download them to keep. There is a new pair of books every week starting May 7 and going through August 13. Check out the titles being offered here. Once the week is over, though, you can’t go back and download missed titles. The audiobooks are downloaded through the OverDrive app, which you can download for either Android or iOS. If you need assistance with OverDrive, the friendly staff at any of the Libraries are more than willing to help you. And you can keep downloading ebooks and eaudiobooks for free through OverDrive once the summer is over! You just need your library card.
