April showers bring May flowers and we are ready for flowers to bloom! Check out our collection of gardening books to get you inspired as you begin planting your garden and flower bed for spring and summer. Several new gardening books were recently added to our collection thanks to a donation from the Penn Cumberland Garden Club. Beautifully painted rain barrels are on display in the library prior to the Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival on April 18. These barrels would look great in your garden or flower bed and will be auctioned off at the festival in downtown Mechanicsburg. Stop in and see them and plan to attend this family friendly event sponsored by the Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership. And check out the Simpson Library booth at this event to get some cool stuff! But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever...

Reaching Out to Our Community Through Music
Simpson Library received a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Jump Street to bring a library program to the seniors in our community. Simple Gifts, an incredible folk duo from State College, performed at the library and four senior care facilities over two days in February. The mission of this grant was to present a high quality, educational, ethnically diverse program for seniors in our community who cannot travel to the library to attend events. Non-mobile seniors are often an overlooked group in communities, and we were so happy to share the power of music with them. The concerts reached 257 senior residents, with 44 additional reached at the library. Thank you to the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Jump Street for making this possible!
