September signifies Back to School which means the end of the library's Summer Reading challenge for the year. This summer, 2214 children and teens participated in our reading challenge keeping their minds active and learning. While the summer is over, learning opportunities continue throughout the year with many activities for children and teens. Check out our Events Calendar for the details! From the calendar page use the "Sort by Event Type" box if you wish to limit your search to a particular age group or type of event. Speaking of events, on Saturday, September 19, 2015, the ladies of the 7th PA Reserves Re-enacting Group will be providing a quilting demonstration at the "Quilts with a Twist" Exhibit at the Mechanicsburg Museum Freight Station. Soldiers will do some sewing to show that men could handle a needle as well! Visitors are welcome to sign and stitch their name on the quilt. This same day the Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership is holding their Mugs & Music event and the Mechanicsburg Rotary Club is having their annual Ox Roast at Memorial Park. The next day, Sunday, September 20, is the library's fashion show fundraiser. Tickets must be purchased by September 14 for the fashion show. Check out these great community events! Library story time programs encourage children to develop a love of reading by presenting them with stories and activities in a fun, energetic environment. When kids see others excited about reading, it sets a positive example and encourages them to pick up books on their own.
Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, and Story Time are presented several times a week throughout the year. Family Story Time is presented once a week on Mondays at 6:30 pm. Visit our Story Time Events Calendar to view the current schedule. If you value the importance of early literacy, we hope you will consider sponsoring a Story Time. You can sponsor for a week, a month, or even a year! For more information, and to get pricing information for each sponsorship level, download our Story Time Sponsor Brochure.

Mad About Mysteries Wednesday, September 9, 7:00 pm This month we're reading Skeleton Dance by Aaron Elkins. Les-Eyzies-de-Tayac is known for three things: pâté de fois gras, truffles, and prehistoric remains. The little village, in fact, is the headquarters of the prestigious Institute de Préhistoire, which studies the abundant local fossils. But when a pet dog emerges from a nearby cave carrying parts of a human skeleton—by no means a fossilized one—Chief Inspector Lucien Anatole Joly puts in a call to his old friend, Gideon Oliver, the famed “Skeleton Detective.” Once Gideon arrives, murder piles on murder, puzzle on puzzle, and twist follows twist in a series of unexpected events that threaten to tear the once sober, dignified Institute apart. It takes a bizarre and startling forensic breakthrough by Gideon to bring to an end a trail of deception thirty-five thousand years in the making.

But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear.

Simpson Book Club Monday, September 21, 7:00 pm This month we're reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is. Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
