June kicks off our eight-week summer learning program for children, teens, and adults. Enjoy a variety of programs and activities throughout the summer. This year's theme is Libraries Rock! Simpson Library is also working on a new strategic plan this year and a customer survey is in progress through June 22. People who complete the online survey can enter their name into a random drawing for a gift card from a Mechanicsburg area business. The survey consists of 28 questions. We'd love to hear from you! Newspaper Source Plus and Newswires We’ve heard a lot about “fake news” recently. One way to ensure you’re getting the full, unbiased story is to read, watch, and listen from a wide variety of news sources. That way you’re getting multiple perspectives and avoiding an echo chamber effect where social media platforms and search engines use algorithms to show you articles they think you’ll be interested in. All very well and good, but who has time for that? Here’s where the library’s databases can save you time and money: get your news from Newspaper Source Plus and Newswires. Newspaper Source Plus has full-text articles from over 1,000 newspapers from around the world as well as transcripts from radio and TV news programs, while Newswires collects stories from the Associated Press. Type in a topic of current news and find out what reporters around the world are saying about it. There are no paywalls or restrictions on how many articles you can read in a month, and you’ll be able to read articles from past decades as well. You can find these news sources in the list of databases under the "Collection and Services" menu on our Website.
