Simpson ComiCon Saturday, May 13, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Grab your lightsabers and come to Simpson Library's 3rd Annual ComiCon! The Stormtroopers from Star Wars 501st and the Capital City Jedi Knights will be back, the Mandalorian Mercs will be making another attempt to invade, and everyone will be here for the Cosplay contest. Pre-registration is required and free for the Cosplay Contest as well as the Smash Bros. Tournament. Day of event, there is a $5.00 fee for registration for these 2 events. All events this year will be held at the First Church of God Community Center across from Snappers. Parking is available at the community center. Please do not park at Snappers. Chipotle Dine-Out Monday, May 8, 5:00 - 9:00 pm Make dinner a selfless act by joining us for a fundraiser to support the Friends of the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library! 50% of the proceeds will go directly to the Friends. Thursday, May 4, 7:00 pm Learn to knit and crochet at the library! This is a program to teach those interested how to knit or crochet. After learning the beginning stitches, there are easy patterns for making a scarf or hat. Anyone working on a project who needs help is welcome to come and our knitting and crochet teachers will help solve the problem. Coloring for Adults Friday, May 5, 12:30 pm Coloring for adults has been very popular at Simpson. We now meet the 1st Friday of every month to relax and enjoy a couple hours of creative bliss! Bring what you are working on or find something new from our collection of coloring pages. We will supply the pictures, pencils, markers, and music for this event. Come play Mah Jongg at the library on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Mah Jongg is a fascinating rummy-like game you play with tiles rather than cards. All are welcome, whether you know how to play or not, and very little time is required to become familiar with the principles of the game. If you have an American style game, please bring it with you. Registration is not required, and new members are welcome!

Sustainable Gardening Wednesday, May 17, 7:00 pm Did you know if you water your garden with rainwater you are using a sustainable gardening technique? Humans are now using natural biophysical resources faster than they can be replenished by nature. Join us as Brandon Hoover, Director of Sustainability at Messiah College, gives us tips that include succession planting to harvest veggies all summer long, integrated pest management, and pollinator friendly landscaping. LEGO Club Tuesday, May 23, 7:00 pm This club is for teens aged 11-18 and meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month from September through May. Teens will have a challenge for each month and bring an original creation built to meet the challenge. Teens are encouraged to bring extra bricks for a time of building in groups. You can ask a specific question with an area you are having a difficulty, or just listen to all the wisdom flowing around the room and pick up random tips. Yoga for Seniors & Beginners Wednesday, May 24, 7:00 pm This class will be held monthly on the fourth Wednesday. It is open to all levels of practitioner, offered in a relaxed and open atmosphere, without judgment. Yoga is a non-competitive activity, accepting of all ages and levels of skill. You will need to bring a yoga mat, beach towel or other exercise mat, wear comfortable clothing, preferably in layers (room is cool), and be able to sit on the floor. Simpson Library continues to offer a seed library to our community. Patrons can use the seed library to try new varieties of vegetables, herbs, flowers, etc. without having to purchase a whole pack of seeds. The seed library also helps preserve heirloom varieties. Seeds are located in our repurposed card catalog on the main level of the library.

Our lobby display this month is artwork by Clare Klaum. Clare creates colorful paintings of flowers and pets using pastels. She displayed here last year and we are very pleased she is sharing her work with us again this year. Clare sells her items and takes special orders for the pet portraits. You can find her contact information in the lobby under the display.

Do you have an important test approaching? Get ready with Learning Express Library! Sign up for a free account and find the tutorials, eBooks, and practice tests you need. Anyone can brush up on basic math, reading, and grammar skills or practice for the GED. Immigrants can get ready for the U.S. citizenship exam. Students can prep for the ACT, SAT and AP tests or check out the study materials for the GRE and CLEP tests. In the Career Center, you can prepare for a career exam (including ASVAB and civil service), explore occupations, and improve workplace skills.
