Library story time programs encourage children to develop a love of reading by presenting them with stories and activities in a fun, energetic environment. When kids see others excited about reading, it sets a positive example and encourages them to pick up books on their own.
Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, and Story Time are presented several times a week throughout the year. Family Story Time is presented once a week on Mondays at 6:30 pm. Visit our Story Time Events Calendar to view the current schedule. If you value the importance of early literacy, we hope you will consider sponsoring a Story Time. You can sponsor for a week, a month, or even a year! For more information, and to get pricing information for each sponsorship level, download our Story Time Sponsor Brochure.

Mad About Mysteries Wednesday, September 14, 7:00 pm This month we're reading The Vanished Man by Jeffrey Deaver. Forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme is called in to work the high-profile investigation of a killer who seemingly disappeared into thin air just as the NYPD closed in. As the homicidal illusionist baits him with grisly murders that grow more diabolical with each victim, Rhyme and his protégée, Amelia Sachs, must go behind the smoke and mirrors to prevent a horrific act of vengeance that could become the greatest vanishing act of all.

This month we're reading Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy by Karen Abbott. After shooting a Union soldier in her front halll, Belle Boyd became a courier and spy for the Confederate army, using her charms to seduce men on both sides. Emma Edmonds cut off her hair and assumed the identity of a man to enlist as a Union private. The beautiful widow, Rose O’Neale Greenhow, engaged in affairs with powerful Northern politicians to gather intelligence for the Confederacy, and used her young daughter to send information to Southern generals. Elizabeth Van Lew, a wealthy Richmond abolitionist, hid behind her proper Southern manners as she orchestrated a far-reaching espionage ring, right under the noses of suspicious rebel detectives. Using a wealth of primary source material and interviews with the spies’ descendants, Abbott seamlessly weaves the adventures of these four heroines throughout the tumultuous years of the war.

We all know that the Internet can be a fun place to explore and connect with others, but it’s crucial for children to understand the dangers and risks involved in interacting online. This collection of five ebooks teaches children in grades 3-6 about navigating the online world safely. Titles include Stopping Cyberbullying, Avoiding Predators Online, Protecting Your Privacy Online, Using Social Networks, and Playing Games Online. The books are colorful and interesting, and include video clips, vocabulary words, games to test comprehension, and credible websites for more information. They will spark valuable conversations about online safety between children and the adults who care for them. Find it in the list of databases under the “Collections and Services” menu on our website.
