Pennsylvania Room Display: Black History Month

February is Black History Month, and we have a very special display in our Pennsylvania Room. Did you know there were African-American men who lived in Mechanicsburg and enlisted to fight for the Union in the Civil War? Once one of our patrons, Sam Hepford, discovered there are eight of these soldiers buried in Lincoln Cemetery off Winding Hill Road, he asked the assistance of Beverly Bone from the Mechanicsburg Museum Association, who pieced together some details of their lives. Sam has compiled a notebook telling their story along with artifacts supplied by Rick Fitzgerald from Ritters’ Hardware. Don’t miss this little-known part of Mechanicsburg’s history.
