June has been a busy time at the library for many reasons… - The Jubilee Day festival, sponsored by the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, included our annual Jubilee Day book sale. This sale raised $11,333!
- Dr. Andrew Leitzel of Mechanicsburg Eye Associates donated the use of his parking lot on Jubilee Day. Between the spaces in his lot and the spaces in the library’s lot, we raised $895!
- Zimmerman Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning employees Alicia, Chris, Jason, and Tim parked cars in their lot on Jubilee Day and donated their income of $1000 to the Friends!
- Following the book sale, it was time to tear everything down and prepare to move to a new location! It was a great deal of work and thanks to the help of Friends volunteers, Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School football players (Dylan S., James S., Jack S., Andrew Z., Josh L., David B., and Hudson O.), and the use of a Zimmerman Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning truck driven by Warren, the move was completed within five hours.
- After the move, John Sieck and his team from Aqua Specialists hauled away and disposed of damaged items from the old location.
- And a final thank you to Will H. who helped load and haul items for recycling.
Thank you to all who have generously helped support the Friends of the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library. From Jubilee Day to the momentous project of moving locations for our book sale, we are grateful for everyone’s assistance and support. Sue Erdman

Thursday, July 14, 7:00 - 8:00pm Do you know who MacGyver was? He was a secret agent character in a TV series who used all kinds of simple everyday things to help him get out of dangerous situations. Nothing was used for its intended purpose. We will be using a Makey Makey Kit to use bananas and other fruit as controllers to play old arcade style video games (after all, those are the games that would have been popular in the 1980’s when MacGyver’s show was on TV). You will have to see it to believe it! Register at the library or by calling 766-0171. You can borrow the entire MacGyver TV series on DVD from Simpson Library!

Mad About Mysteries Wednesday, July 13, 7:00 pm This month we're reading reading Terminal City by Linda Fairstein. Grand Central Station is hiding more than just an underground train system. When the body of a young woman is found in the tower suite of the Waldorf Astoria, Assistant DA Alex Cooper and Detective Mike Chapman find themselves hunting for a killer whose only signature is a carefully drawn symbol carved into his victims’ bodies, a symbol that bears a striking resemblance to train tracks. After a second body is discovered in a terminal alleyway, attention shifts to the iconic transportation hub and the potential for a bigger attack. With the President of the United States set to arrive for a United Nations meeting, Alex and Mike must contend with Grand Central’s expansive underground tunnels and century-old dark secrets to find a killer who’s cutting a deadly path straight to the heart of the city.

This month we're reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion, and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France - a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.
