Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday? We have a day for giving thanks. We have two days for getting deals. Now, we have Giving Tuesday, a global day founded in 2012, dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, join thousands of people around the world coming together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Be part of Giving Tuesday and make an online donation to the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library. Visit our donation page and select Giving Tuesday under Fund Choice. Your tax-deductible donation supports library services at Simpson Library. Don’t want to donate online? Mail your donation to Simpson Library at 16 N. Walnut St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 and write Giving Tuesday on the memo line of your check. Thank you! Your support is greatly appreciated.

Birthday Gifts Benefit Simpson Library In November, we held our annual Bowling for Books fundraiser at Trindle Bowl and raised over $12,000. This year we had several very special bowlers join us to celebrate their friend’s birthday. Amelia is an avid reader and loves visiting Simpson Library. For her birthday this year, she told her parents that she didn’t want to have a traditional birthday party with gifts but instead wanted to bring her friends to Bowling for Books and raise money for the library by having her friends donate to the library instead of buying her a birthday gift. We are honored by their generosity and support of our library.

Simpson Book of the Month ClubMonday, December 15, 7:00 pm
This month we're reading The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. A.J. Fikry, the irascible owner of Island Books, has recently endured some tough years: his wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and his prized possession--a rare edition of Poe poems--has been stolen. Over time, he has given up on people, and even the books in his store, instead of offering solace, are yet another reminder of a world that is changing too rapidly. Until a most unexpected occurrence gives him the chance to make his life over and see things anew.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. Our December display will present the Christmas traditions, books, and illustrations of Tasha Tudor, popular author and illustrator of nearly 100 children's books. Her first book, "Pumpkin Moonshine", was published in 1938 and her last, "A Corgiville Christmas" in 2002. Since the early 1940s many hundreds of greeting cards have displayed her talented illustrations. She chose to live, and often portrayed, the simple country lifestyle of the early 1800s, and her fans span the ages and the world. The December display was created by The Tasha Tudor Museum Society, Pennsylvania Chapter.
