Coal Mining Songs of the NortheastWednesday, July 2, 7:00 pm
This musical program highlights the struggles and disasters of coal miners in Northeast Pennsylvania. Original compositions are presented first by explaining their origin, then musically through song. Presenter Jay Smar accompanies his vocals with guitar, claw-hammer banjo, fiddle and a form of clog dancing. Coal mining photos, books and chronicles also are shared with the audience.

DIY: Washi Tape MadnessWednesday, July 16, 7:00 pm
Join us for a night of decorating with Washi Tape! Originating from Japan, Washi tape is a very pretty tape that comes in semi-transparent patterns and designs. In this program, we will use Washi Tape to decorate a variety of objects such as flower pots, picture frames, votive holders, and letter wall art. Participants can choose which object they would like to decorate from our supplies, or bring their own object to decorate! Register now! This program is limited to 12 participants.

Join us on Saturday, August 9, 2014 for our 8th Annual Joseph T. Simpson Public Library Run for Reading 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk! The fee to register is $20 on or before July 23, and $25 after July 23. This is a great family event and proceeds benefit children's programs and services at Simpson Public Library. From Library Director Sue Erdman’s collection, stop in and see a wide variety of elephants in many shapes and sizes made from a variety of materials including a dollar bill, feathers, and the parts of a clock. Erdman has been collecting elephants for more than 30 years and is delighted to share her collection with you.

Searchasaurus is our featured database for the month of July! Suggested for children, this database includes an encyclopedia, an encyclopedia of animals, magazine searches for primary and middle school grade levels, a dictionary, photos, and maps and flags. The site also includes a search for teacher resources, and a listing of the top searches performed. Main topics featured on the database homepage include animals, art and music, health, history, people and places, science and math, sports, and stories.
