There’s a day for everything and there’s a definite theme for August! For example:
National Ice Cream Sandwich Day is August 2. National Root Beer Float Day is August 6. National Frozen Custard Day is August 8. National Soft Ice Cream Day is August 18. National Creamsicle Day is August 14.
Have I made you hungry for ice cream? Two others to mention are Spoil Your Dog Day is August 10. (I thought that was every day!) Any my personal favorite is World Elephant Day on August 12. Visit Holidays-and-Observances.com for more fun celebrations. Sue Erdman, Library Director

Mad About MysteriesWednesday, August 13, 7:00 pm
We are reading The Innocent by David Baldacci. It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable. He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people. Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a fourteen-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway-her parents were murdered, and her own life is in danger. Against all of his professional habits, Robie rescues her and finds he can't walk away.

Simpson Book of the Month ClubMonday, August 18, 7:00 pm
We're reading The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. Nearly two thousand years ago, nine hundred Jews held out for months against armies of Romans on Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. According to the ancient historian Josephus, two women and five children survived. Based on this tragic and iconic event, Hoffman’s novel is a spellbinding tale of four extraordinarily bold, resourceful, and sensuous women, each of whom has come to Masada by a different path.

The Word NerdsTuesday, August 19, 6:00 pm
We're reading The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Lyra Belacqua is content to run wild among the scholars of Jodan College, with her daemon familiar always by her side. But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle—a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armored bears. And as she hurtles toward danger in the cold far North, Lyra never suspects the shocking truth: she alone is destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle.
