There are many ways to support the Simpson Library. This month, I’d like to tell you about three ways, two of which are brand new for us. Endowment Fund Our Endowment Fund was established in 2011 as part of the library’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. An endowment is a permanent fund that provides income each year to support the library. A gift to the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library Endowment Fund will help provide resources for future generations of library users. Gifts in any amount can be placed in the Endowment Fund. In addition to cash gifts, endowment donations can also be established through planned giving bequests through a will or trust, gifts of appreciated securities such as stocks or bonds, and naming the library as your beneficiary in life insurance policies. More information is available on our Endowment page along with a link to our Endowment brochure. Amazon Smile People who purchase products from Amazon can now support the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library when making purchases. AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when customers shop on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organizations selected by customers. If you shop at Amazon, for books, electronics, beauty supplies, or anything, start at smile.amazon.com and select the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library as your charity. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides more than $100 million annually to help congregations, communities and individuals in need. Eligible members are designated Choice Dollars, based on insurance premiums, contract values and Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership. Choice Dollars can be directed to thousands of nonprofit organizations nationwide, including the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library. If you are a Thrivent member, we’d appreciate you directing your Choice Dollars to us. Sue Erdman

We lend books, DVDs, CDs, and now...seeds! Simpson Library is excited to become one of a few libraries across the United States to have a Seed Library. We are excited to create a unique and meaningful addition to Mechanicsburg’s community resources. The idea behind the seed library is that patrons borrow seeds, let some of their crop go to seed, and then return some of the next generation of seeds to the library for others to borrow. For more information, please visit our web page.

We are sad to say that the month of May marks the end of our Geek the Library campaign, but we are thrilled at how successful our campaign has been! We rediscovered just how passionate the members of our library are about their interests. Who would have known that the residents of Mechanicsburg were ever so geeky!? As a thank you to our community, and especially to members of the community who participated in our campaign, the library is hosting a campaign finale party on May 28th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. We are looking for stories to share at the event about how the library has impacted your life. If you would like to share a story, please submit here.
