The Rural Face of White Supremacy: Beyond Jim Crow Lewis University History Professor Dr. Mark Schultz will share from his first book, “The Rural Face of White Supremacy: Beyond Jim Crow,” which was designated an Editor’s Choice by The Atlantic Monthly. This study examines the daily experience of life under Jim Crow, the degree of freedom and unfreedom that African Americans experienced after the end of slavery, and the ambiguous ways that black and white people interacted as neighbors. Citizenship Preparation Classes

These classes target the legal permanent residents who are either thinking of or have already started the naturalization process. The class is led by staff from the Southwest Suburban Immigration Project in collaboration with staff from the White Oak Library District. The class will focus on the four components necessary for applicants to pass the citizenship interview. The four components are Reading, Writing, Civics, and Personal Information. Students will be required to take a placement test in order to register for the class.
