The Old Men and The Sea: Sea Level Rise and The Geography of Risk
Wednesday, September 25, 7:00 pm
Pine Valley Library
One year after Hurricane Florence hit New Hanover County, authors Gilbert M. Gaul and Orrin H. Pilkey have new books about sea level rise, climate change, and what it means for us here on the coast. They will be talking about the real-life implications: How did we get to this point with so much at risk and so few good choices? Can’t we engineer our way out of the problems the way they do in the Netherlands? Why is the federal government insuring beach houses and investment property? How high are the seas expected to rise? What should I do – raise my house, sell, retreat to higher ground? What is a rain bomb and why should I care?
