Dana's first book was THE HOUSE ON DREAM STREET, a memoir of living in Vietnam and studying the language in the early 1990s. Her first novel, published in 2009, was IF YOU LIVED HERE, a story about a Wilmington woman's quest to adopt a Vietnamese child. She researched and wrote THE LIFE WE WERE GIVEN (2010) with support from a Fulbright Foundation Fellowship in Vietnam.
This free Library program is part of a series inspired by the new documentary THE VIETNAM WAR, with support from the American Library Association, PBS, and WETA in Washington DC. No registration is needed to attend.

Advocacy 101 Monday, October 16, 6:00 pm NHC Main Library, 201 Chestnut St, Wilmington 28401 Learn how to effect change in a system through engagement. Topics will include prioritization, collecting data, collaboration, SMART goal setting, collective advocacy, and identifying and communicating with persons who possess influence over policy change. Participants will work individually and in groups to craft clear, concise advocacy messages, and leave with an effective advocacy action plan.
Wes Rider will lead this free workshop. Wes is a mental health program coordinator on the Community Engagement and Empowerment Team of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, for the NC Dept of Health and Human Services.
