The library is open to the public Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Friday 10 am to 5 pm. We are closed on the weekends.
November 20 @ NHCPL

Big 2020 energy from Emma
A Note from the (Interim) Editor:

People often ask me, "So, what are you doing this weekend?" and my answer is almost always, "Not much." This is wildly boring but COVID-19 restrictions mean that it is far more socially acceptable to not go out and engage in social interaction. Hooray!

And yet, I do miss being with people. I don't celebrate the holidays, so there is no temptation for me to get together with people for Thanksgiving or Christmas. While I miss my family, I'm not particularly interested in going back to Wisconsin, the Plague State, even if my family is there.

So during next week's library closure, I'll be doing what I usually do: sleep, sew, cook, and read. On the docket are Crownchasers, a YA sci-fi new release, and How Not to Get Eaten by an Ewok, a humorous how-to on surviving in a galaxy far, far away.
That's Absurd!
Today (November 20th) has been designated (probably by a greeting card company) National Absurdity Day. Is this an excuse for me to showcase even more books that I find hilarious? Yes, yes, it is.

Here is a question that has been asked recently:

"What is a museum pass?"

I mentioned this type of material in my announcement about some items going back to their usual 7-day checkout period, and I received a lot of questions about it. Here's the lowdown:

A museum pass is just that: a free pass to one of two local museums. You can reserve a pass for either the Cape Fear Museum or the Children's Museum of Wilmington. Each pass covers the entire family, so don't worry about reserving one for each person.

Please note that the Children's Museum requires you to call at least 24 hours ahead of time to reserve your tickets.

One tricky thing about these passes is finding them in the catalog. Here's what you should search for:

  • Cape Fear Museum: museum pass
  • Children's Museum of Wilmington: library membership
