On June 13, Marigold Board Chair - Lynda Lyster, CEO - Michelle Toombs, Deputy CEO - Laura Taylor, and Indigenous Outreach Specialist - Rose Reid attended the launch of the Baby Book Bag project at the Stoney Health Centre on the Stoney Nakoda Nation. The project was funded by the Canmore Rotary Club in partnership with Marigold Library System and the Stoney Health Centre. The purpose of the bags are to be distributed to new babies that are born on the Stoney Nakoda Nation and the Eden Valley Reserve near Longview. Included in the bags is an Indigenous book called Discovering Words by Neepin Auger or Welcome Song for Baby by Richard Van Camp, brochures that provide reading suggestions for small children including rhymes and songs, a brochure about using the library, and a bookmark highlighting the culture and traditions of the Stoney Nakoda Nation. The Health Centre will also include some information such as baby milestones and a cookbook with tips for introducing solid foods. Marigold was pleased that MLA Cam Westhead (MLA For Banff-Cochrane) attended the event and presented the bags to a new mother and an expectant mother from the Nation. An Elder named Jackie provided best wishes and said a prayer. A photojournalist from the Rocky Mountain Outlook also attended the event. The Canmore Rotary Club is very pleased with this initiative and has already indicated their intent to fund the program for next year.

The irrepressible Emmy keeps writing letters in this hilarious and enormously moving tale of friendship, the kindness of strangers, and ordinary people in extraordinary times. "In the vein of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Dear Mrs. Bird is a humourous, moving tale of the power of the connection that letters can bring. Although set during the Blitz of WWII, it wasn't a heavy and depressing read. I can't wait for the next book about Emmy!" - review by Kristine den Boon
