Craft Time with Kaytlynn
The first step to being a Hogwarts student is learning which House you belong to! Find out by making your very own origami Sorting Hat! Just follow the simple steps below and you will be well on your way to becoming a wizard!

1. Download and print the free printable template by clicking the link below.
https://www.getawaytoday.com/files/326/26338/sortinghat.pdf

2. Cut off the white edges, so you have just the square pattern. Turn the paper over so that the pattern is facing down and the blank side is facing up. Fold the corners into the center, making sure to watch the lines so that they are even.

3. Next, fold the corners into the center again to make a smaller square. Crease the edges by pressing them flat repetitively.

4. Next, fold the square in half one way. Make a crease. Unfold it. Then, fold it the opposite direction and make another crease.

5. Then, place your fingers into the bottom of the paper and pop it up to make four little teepees. The "Hat" is ready to start sorting!

6. It's easy to play! Hold the Harry Potter Origami Sorting Hat with two hands. Place your thumb and pointer fingers inside the little teepees. Let the person who is being sorted choose one of the images on the top. Either the cauldron, books, snitch or owl. Each picture has a number associated with it. Open and close the Harry Potter Origami Sorting Hat, alternating between up and then across with your fingers. For example, if the player chooses the bubbling cauldron, you will make three movements. If the owl was chosen, you make four, etc. Leave the Sorting Hat open on the last count.

7. Next, the player will choose one of the words on the inside. The words are written in blue, yellow, red, and green. Move the Harry Potter Origami Sorting Hat as many times as there are letters in the word chosen (the number placed next to the word tells you how many letters are in the word.)

Repeat this step three times.

8. On the fourth word selection, instead of counting out the word, open the flap and read the directions underneath. Four of the words hold a Hogwarts House icon under them. If you get one of these, then you have been officially sorted into a house. Hooray! The other four slots are filled with directions on how to start again. Or, if you are really unlucky, you may find out that you are not a wizard at all, but a Muggle!

Geek Time With Grant

As it is Harry Potter’s birthday today, this geek time is Harry Potter themed! Now Harry Potter has a special place in my heart because I grew up watching the movies and reading the books. The series is a pop culture phenomenon and I would be highly surprised if almost everyone doesn't have a general idea of what Harry Potter is. This pop culture icon status has given the Harry Potter series many spin offs in the form of movies, books and video games. One game I want to talk about today is the Lego Harry Potter Series for the Playstation 4. This series is a lot better than someone would think; in fact, it’s better than it has any right to be. Recently, I have been playing through the series and it is just pure fun; it is so satisfying to run around and break everything that Lego Hogwarts has to offer.
In addition to several video games, the Harry Potter franchise is also responsible for an amazing movie series spin-off. That movie series is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This series has a second installment coming out this November in theaters titled The Crimes of Grindewald. The first movie was very entertaining and gave viewers an interesting look into what the magical world is like in different countries, something we had only seen during the Triwizard Tournament in book 4 of the Harry Potter Series. The second movie promises to continue this theme while also delving into several story lines mentioned in the Harry Potter Series that were never fully explained. This is a very good time to be a Harry Potter fan, with the new movies, new games, and the Wizarding World theme parks. You can’t go wrong by loving our old pal Harry.
