The 2023 Summer Reading Program is right around the corner.
 
With a theme of "All Together Now," Rodman Public Library encourages all of its patrons -- young, mature, and everyone in between -- to take part in the program and earn chances to win some fun prizes.

UMU Professor to Discuss Juneteenth June 19
 
Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday in the United States, yet many Americans do not understand what it celebrates. Dr. Michelle Collins-Sibley, professor of English and director of the Africana Studies Program at the University of Mount Union, will discuss the national holiday at
7 p.m. on Monday, June 19 inside the Rodman Main Auditorium.
 
Author/Columnist Terry Pluto to Talk Sports June 27
 
Like to talk sports?
 
Rodman Public Library is bringing in an expert at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 when Terry Pluto will visit to share his vast knowledge of Cleveland sports and beyond.
 
Pluto, a sports columnist for The Plain Dealer / Cleveland.com and author of more than 30 books, was named Best Sports Columnist in the National Headliner Awards in 2020 and has been Ohio Sportswriter of the Year 11 times. 
 
Explore Historic Preservation with KSU Instructor
 
Alliance resident Dalton Rininger Kline, an instructor at the Kent State College of Architecture and Environmental Design and member of the Alliance Area Preservation Society, will explore modern historic preservation when he presents “North Lincoln: What It Was and What It Could Have Been” inside the Rodman Public Library Auditorium on Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m.

QPR Training Offered June 21
 
 Everyone has heard of CPR, but there is another technique called QPR that can also save a life.

QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) is an evidence-based training that teaches three simple steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to help someone in crisis seek the support they need.

The Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition will provide free training in QPR at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21 at Rodman Public Library.

Rodman Library's Bookmobile Summer Schedule Set
 
Rodman Public Library's Bookmobile will make regular stops at 19 different sites throughout the summer, including the Alliance Farmer's Market. It will also make monthly stops at the First Friday events in downtown Alliance as well as a few special stops throughout the season.
 
Printed schedule brochures are available on the Bookmobile as well as the circulation desks at the Main Library and Branch Library. It can also be viewed as a PDF at rodmanlibray.com/bookmobile.

The  Books and Coffee Book Club usually meets at 6:30 p.m. every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library.

True Crime Junkies
 
The True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock,  meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the June 20 meeting is We Carry Their Bones: The Search for Justice at Dozier School for Boys  by

Evening Book Club
 
The RPL Evening Book Club  meet s every fourth Monday of the month

Alliance Vinyl Club
 
Alliance Vinyl Club will meet at Rodman Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7.
 
Although it is called a club, there is no formal membership and no registration is required to attend the program, which is open to all music lovers. Those attending are encouraged to bring in some of their favorite records to play for others.
 
The monthly program, which is held on the first Wednesday of every month and is supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library, is led by Byrun Reed and provides the opportunity to listen to music, hang out, and make new friends. Those attending are encouraged to bring some of their favorite records to share a song or two with others.

Maker Monday
 
Maker Monday crafters will
create a suncatcher 
when they meet Monday, June 12 at 7 p.m.
in Rodman Public Library’s Main Auditorium.
 
Led by Nicole Brown, Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays.
 
All materials are provided free of charge, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library, but space is limited and registration is required for each session.

Ohio is home to nearly 30 native species of snakes. If you find one in your yard, Rodman Public Library has a tool that can help you identify exactly which one it is.
 
What’s That Snake? is a collaboration between the Ohio History Connection and  the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) and is one is one of more than 75  databases found at rodmanlibrary.com/databases.
 
What’s That Snake? can help users identify Ohio snakes based on characteristics or by name. This resource also helps to dispel many snake related myths.

 Rodman Public Library has resumed offering notary services to the public.
 
Area residents who need documents, excluding titles, notarized should call 330-821-2665, ext. 202 to schedule an appointment. Services will be rendered at the Main Library and patrons must have a valid Ohio ID with them at their appointment.
