A Most Beautiful Thing is 2022 OBOC selection Growing up on Chicago’s Westside in the 1990s, Arshay Cooper needed a positive influence in his life. He found it in a most unusual way for an inner-city youth – in the sport known as crew as part of a squad that made history as America’s first all-Black high school rowing team. Cooper tells his story in A Most Beautiful Thing, the 2022 One Book One Community selection.

Bookmobile is busy during school year The Rodman Library Bookmobile staff, which includes Dan Cherry, Jodie Gerber, Jeff Kelly, James Sedoris and Manager Jamie Warnock, stays quite busy during the school year. During the 2021-2022 academic year, the Bookmobile makes 15 stops over a two-week period. Of those, 14 are at schools in the greater Alliance area, serving thousands of students of all age levels and their teachers, too.

Books and Coffee Rodman Public Library’s Books and Coffee Book Club meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. The next book club meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. when the selected title will be The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles. True Crime Junkies The True Crime Junkies book discussion group meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the Jan. 18 meeting is American Fire: Love, Arson, and Life in a Vanishing Land by Monica Hesse. Strategy Gaming is Fun for the Entire Family Rodman Public Library invites families to a night of strategy gaming on Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During the family strategy game nights, which will be held monthly, card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering will be played as well as a variety of board games. A different board game will be featured each month so that visitors can learn how to play new games. Bring your own cards, gather with others to play, have fun and make new friends. Maker Monday crafters to meet January 24 Maker Monday crafters will create a no-sew microwavable heating pad when they meet Monday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Rodman Public Library’s Main Auditorium. The pad is filled with rice and essential oils and is reusable. Led by Nicole Brown, Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays. All materials are provided free of charge, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library, but space is limited and registration is required for each session. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 107 for more information.

Knit Wits The KnitWits, a circle for needleworkers of all types and skill levels, meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Main Library. Tech Time Thursday Rodman Public Library offers Tech Time Thursday at the Main Library from 11 a.m. to noon each Thursday.
