Are you signed up yet? As the new year opens, Los Gatos Library is launching a new Be a Book Family Theme, celebrating “Heroes.” Browse our BABF shelf for our favorite stories of community heroes, historical heroes, and of course, superheroes! Be A Book Family is a cooperative reading program designed with the goal of helping parents strengthen their children’s reading skills by offering a curated collection of books to be read together as a family, then sharing the literary concepts from the books. Be your child’s hero – read together! Family and Children’s Programs are happening each week: Meet up with one of our enthusiastic volunteer readers in the kids room every Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 4:00PM to hear stories in a one-to-one or group setting. Furry Friends Reading Buddies – Therapy dogs are in the Library every 4th Thursday of the month starting at 4:00 PM (Ages 4+) ************************************************************ As a reminder to all of our parents out there: your child’s library card provides access to all the many wonders of the Library. We encourage you to take an active role in helping your child choose materials that are just right for your family. Here are some tips on how to do that: 1. Come in and talk to one of our librarians on the Children’s Information desk. With information such as your child’s age, interest, reading abilities and your comfort level with content, we can provide suggestions for your child. NextReads provides many lists including those for children, tweens and teens, with descriptions and reviews. ************************************************************

Sign up to get the next issue due out April 15, 2017 Read our Latest Local History eNewsletter: *************************** Los Gatos circa 1940's Chief was a dog of uncertain lineage who endeared himself to Los Gatans in the 1930s and 1940s. For at least 10 years, he was a regular "student" at Los Gatos Union Elementary School, favoring the fourth-grade curriculum. Everyone in the town of "the cats" - about 3,500 people - knew this dog. During recess, Chief usually sat on the steps with the kids. Chief would only visit during normal school hours. Once Chief was honored at an after school ceremony, for which the fourth graders had written a song, "The Mascot of Our School." Chief had to be dragged to the auditorium by four boys. However, once Chief sensed what was up, he gladly appeared on stage.
