Thanks to the Friends of Los Gatos Library and a grant from the Pacific Library Partnership we now offer outreach services from the library via bicycle. Our previous events have been fun and productive: Saturday December 3rd @ 11 AM The Chartreuse Caboose and Library Staff rolled through Los Gatos for the Annual Los Gatos Children's Christmas/Holiday Parade. Librarians Melissa and Jennifer paraded on bicycles, while Dolly, Carol, Catherine rode in the town employee truck. Hundreds of onlookers lined the streets for the parade and the Los Gatos Library was proud to represent the Town and spread Holiday cheer and library community outreach. Here's a wonderful write-up in the Mercury News [link]. Check out these Holiday Parade videos! [link] Red Ribbon Week @ Whole Foods October 27th Chris and Dolly took to the Chartreuse Caboose to Whole Foods for the annual Red Ribbon Week event and talked to 127 children, 24 teens and 99 adults! They had tons of fun showcasing the bike and everyone was excited about the spin wheel to win prizes. (The “la-la-la lollipops” was a crowd favorite to win.) There was a huge line of people waiting (in the rain!), to see what the Los Gatos Library had in store. :) Whole Foods loved us and they invited us to join them in their taco and BBQ events in the Spring and Summer. See us in action by checking out our new promotional video on our Facebook page. Don't forget to "friend" us.

Family and Children’s Programs are happening each week: Meet up with one of our enthusiastic volunteer readers in the kids room every Wednesday from 3PM to 4:00PM to hear stories in a one to one or group setting. Furry Friends Reading Buddies – Therapy dogs are in the library every 4th Thursday of the month starting at 4PM (Ages 4+) ************************************************************ As a reminder to all of our parents out there: your child’s library card provides access to all the many wonders of the library. We encourage you to take an active role in helping your child choose materials that are just right for your family. Here are some tips on how to do that: 1. Come in and talk to one of our librarians on the Children’s Information desk. With information such as your child’s age, interest, reading abilities and your comfort level with content, we can provide suggestions for your child. NextReads provides many lists including those for children, tweens and teens, with descriptions and reviews. ************************************************************

Author: Neil Gaiman Call Number: SCI-FI Gaiman Staff Review: The holiday season has come and gone and I recall the magic that we once believed in as children, which has faded away, replaced by our busy lives using smart phones and watching our giant television sets. This thought made me remember the awesome science-fiction fantasy novel American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It is a fantastic tale of the modern-day battle fought by the deities of your immigrant forefathers against the new gods of modern life: technology, internet, and science. Neil Gaiman is a master of new mythology and American Gods is exciting and clever in its reissuing of ancient characters placed in a modern setting. If you have never read American Gods, I envy your opportunity to experience a great story for the first time.
