Appointment of Ryan Baker as Library Director
|

Press Release Los Gatos, CA – On July 31, 2017, Ryan Baker will assume the duties of Library Director for the Town of Los Gatos. Mr. Baker is currently the Library and Community Services Director for the City of Sierra Madre, a tightknit community of 11,000 residents that also values its small town character. Previously, he worked for the City of Irwindale as the City Librarian. In addition to his technical skills and experience, Mr. Baker has demonstrated collaborative teamwork with the community, Friends groups, Library Boards, Library staff, and other Departments. He holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences from San Jose State University. Los Gatos Town Manager said, “We are looking forward to Ryan joining our Town team. Our Library is a special place in the community and Ryan has demonstrated experience leading the provision of high quality library services.” Mr. Baker added, "The Library is the cornerstone of a community. It is a place to meet, exchange ideas, and pursue learning that lasts a lifetime. I look forward to serving the Library and community of Los Gatos."

Financial Literacy Series “Women in Transition: Financial Strategies for Women” Thursday, August 17th @ 1:00pm, in the Technology Lab (2nd floor) This workshop is for women, whether retired, getting ready for retirement, widowed or divorced who would like to learn more about investing in order to grow and protect your portfolio value and maintain your lifestyle. Thanks to the Friends of Los Gatos Library and a grant from the Pacific Library Partnership we now offer outreach services from the Library via bicycle. On July 1st, our Storytime Librarians Jenn & Catherine were out with the Chartreuse Caboose at the Red, White and Blue Block Party! They read at 2 storytimes, put up Storywalk book signs, and provided legos for families to Build A Better World. Read more about this event here.

As summer gets under way, Los Gatos Library combines our Be a Book Family program with our summer reading program celebrating our theme of "Build a Better World." Browse our BABF shelf for our favorite stories of architecture, science, design, and world improvement! Be A Book Family is a cooperative reading program designed with the goal of helping parents strengthen their children’s reading skills by offering a curated collection of books to be read together as a family, then sharing the literary concepts from the books. Be your child’s hero – read together! Summer Reading Prize Pickup July 23 - August 19 Kids who participated in Summer Reading can pick up their prizes in the Childrens Room. Storytime Break: September 4 - September 15 Storytime resumes Monday September 18 Special Programs: Family Craft Wednesday, August 2nd, 4:00PM Children's Room Come join us for a fun summer craft.
