National Nutrition Month at the Library
This year's theme is "Beyond the Table," which addresses the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition, from food production and distribution to navigating grocery stores and farmers markets — and even home food safety and storage practices. It also describes the various ways we eat — not only around a dinner table, but also on the go, in schools and restaurants, at games and events. This theme also includes sustainability, for instance, decreasing food waste from school and work to home and beyond. With support from the Health Promotions office, the Library will show off various ways on how we can think beyond the table all month. Be sure to visit and find out how the Library can help make good nutrition fun!

Sign Up for Events
We require sign-ups for many events to accommodate constraints regarding space and limited supplies. Please reserve a space for every member of your party participating in the event, unless specified otherwise in the sign-up. A waitlist is usually available. If you can't attend, please cancel your reservation to free up spaces for others. Repeated failure to cancel may result in denial of future reservations. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations take precedence. If you have any questions, please contact us!

Starter villain
by John Scalzi
When his long-lost uncle dies, leaving him his supervillain business, Charlie, as rich, soulless predators backed by multinational corporations and venture capital come after him, finds going bad looking pretty good with unionized dolphins, hyperintelligent talking spy cats and a terrifying henchperson at his side.

Why do I recommend it? John Scalzi is masterful when it comes to funny, adventure-filled romps that are always a little over the top but never too much so. Talking cats? Check. Underground lair on a remote island? Check. Foul-mouthed dolphins in a labour dispute? Check. It's like a bowl of popcorn with a movie - not the most nutritious snack in the house, but the one you want. An excellent antidote to grey, gloomy February weather!

One thousand books? That seems like way too many, right? Not at all. You got this. It doesn't matter if your child is three, or just three months - there's no better time to start than now! Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, promotes bonding, and helps kids do well overall in school. Take that motivation, open one book, and get started. And remember, 1000 is just a number. The goal is to work reading aloud into your regular routine, and let the magic of stories do the rest.
