Declare your love for your library this February! Love Your Library Month is a celebration of all the things libraries contribute to their communities, and you can play a vital role in your local library's success. Promote: You can easily promote your library by liking us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SouthwestGaLibrary) or following us on Twitter (www.twitter.com/SWGRL). Share our programs and events through Social Media! You can promote your library by talking about the amazing opportunities we provide to other people in your community. Participate: By attending events and simply using the services your library offers, you help your library show how vital they are. Not only does your library offer books, there is also a wide array of DVDs available for checkout, databases available for research, and children's programs to engage the entire family. Volunteer/Donate: Volunteers can always be used during high program times (such as the Summer Reading Program). If you have a particular skill or knowledge base and would like to share with your community, consider leading a program at the library. If you don't have the time to volunteer, the library is always happy to accept a tax deductible monetary donation or book donations. Advocate: Libraries are always in need of strong advocates to ensure the future of our public libraries. A library's success can hinge on its community's willingness to advocate at a local and statewide level by writing letters and talking to law makers about the value and importance of the library. If you are interested in supporting the library, contact the Southwest Georgia Regional Library System at 229-248-2665.

My Name is Alexander Hamilton
Hamilton has become one of the most popular Broadway plays in recent years, and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Combining hip-hop, rap, pop, and jazz, Hamilton brings to life the $10 Founding Father. Since New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago are pretty far from Southwest Georgia, your library is bringing a little bit of that Broadway magic to you. The biography that started it all, Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow is available. The library has also added the Broadway Soundtrack to Hamilton to our collection, as well as Hamilton:The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter.
Alexander Hamilton by Ron ChernowThe personal life of Alexander Hamilton, an illegitimate, largely self-taught orphan from the Caribbean who rose to become George Washington's aide-de-camp and the first Treasury Secretary of the United States, is captured in a definitive biography by the National Book Award-winning author of The House of Morgan. 400,000 first printing.
Hamilton:A sung-through musical about the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The water princess
by Susan Verde
A tale based on the supermodel's childhood follows the experiences of a young girl who dreams of bringing clean drinking water to her African village as she rises early every morning and makes long journeys to the well with a heavy pot that she carries on her head.
Why: The Water Princess has beautiful illustrations that have caught the interest of all the groups I've read it to, ranging in age from 1-4. The text is minimal (which is fantastic for those wiggly little ones who can't sit still for very long), and the whimsical descriptions have struck home for many kids. For kids in a slightly older age group (4+) it provides an opportunity to explore life for kids in another part of the world. There are photographs in the back of the book that show Princess Gie Gie all grown up, which had my 4 year old asking a lot of questions. After we finished the book, he declared that he "loved this book."

The Night Gardener
by Terry Fan
Discovering that the tree outside his window has been sculpted into the shape of a wise owl overnight, young William revels in a sequence of elaborate topiaries that are created throughout his town by a mysterious talented night gardener. A first picture book.
Why: This is one of the only books I've ever read out loud to groups of children that elicited an "ooooooooh" from both kids and teachers. For younger kids, it's a great book to practice naming animals, and older kids get excited about what animals could show up next.
