The Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library has been awarded a grant for a 6-week family literacy program. The PRIME TIME Family Reading Program will provide an interactive story time as well as a humanities based discussion. This program is intended to target up to 25 underserved families. PRIME TIME is a community effort, and team members include: Ronnie Burke Debbie McIntyre Branagan Webb Our three community members, as well as Kaycee Shiley, Youth Services & Community Relations Librarian, will travel to New Orleans in January to receive training on the program. We are incredibly excited to be offered this opportunity to reach out to families and provide a family reading environment that will encourage them to continue reading together after the program is finished. PRIME TIME Family Reading Time is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by Georgia Public Library Service, a unit of the University System of Georgia with funding from Georgia Humanities.

On December 2, 2016, the Decatur County staff received a handwritten note from a retired Air Force Master Sergeant who stated he was "so impressed" with our employees. He also wrote that the staff are "helpful, warm, and a class act" and that it was the "best library" he has ever been in. Thank you so much for sharing these kind words. Our staff work hard to meet all of our patron's needs, and we're so grateful to know that we are creating a positive experience for our community.

Starting December 31, 2016, SWGLAS and GLASS will no longer be circulating talking books on cassette or cassette players. Replacement parts are no longer in production for the cassette players, and new titles are no longer being recorded on the cassette tapes. If you currently have a cassette player, you may return them once you are finished with them. There is no deadline to return the cassette players or tapes. Digital talking book players are available, and there are several benefits to them! The players are smaller, and each book is on one cartridge as opposed to several. For any questions about how to return a cassette player, or questions about the digital players, contact SWGLAS at 229-248-2680.
