Miller's First Tuesday Book Club Features Wonder by R. J. Palacio
The First Tuesday Book Club meets Tuesday, November 4th at 10 a.m. The book that will be discussed is a young adult book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It is about the life of a 10 year old boy who has a disfigured face and is entering public school for the first time. This story recounts his tale of trials and triumphs. Wonder is a great story filled with unforgettable characters and moments and is one you will not want to miss. December's Book Club selection is: The Christmas Promise by Donna Van Liere. This story intertwines the lives of 60 year old Gloria who is starting over, her critical neighbor Miriam, and lonely Chaz who has perhaps made too many mistakes to realize his dream of having a wife and family. At once poignant, and humorous it is just perfect to ring in the spirit of the Christmas season. Everyone is welcome to attend the First Tuesday Book Club!
Seminole's First Wednesday Book Club Features Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall
On November 5th at 10 a.m, the First Wednesday Book Club will discuss Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall. It is a heartwarming coming of age story set in civil rights era south about a little white girl runs who away from home and is taken in by a black lady. Set in Civil Rights era 1963, it’s the tale of a sassy redheaded runaway 9 year old white girl, Starla, who is picked up by Eula, a black woman traveling alone with a white baby. This is the tale of their emerging friendship as it bridges the race and age differences they have, and they come to know each other’s secrets and increasingly to rely on one another. December’s selection is John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas: A Novel. It is not Grisham’s normal courtroom drama, but as the title suggests, a fun story about a couple who decide to skip the whole whoopla Christmas had become for them. Will the Kranks be able to sidestep the long entrenched community traditions? Will they be able to board that plane for the Caribbean cruise they so want to go on? Find out by reading this light-hearted look at “skipping” Christmas. Everyone is welcome to attend!
