Stay Connected @ Your Library! Come to our free drop in "e-clinic" to learn how to get books and audio books onto those new electronic devices that were found under the Christmas tree! Through Georgia Download Destination, you can borrow eBooks and audio books from the library. With our one-on-one assistance, we will show you the ins and outs of how easy it is to borrow books from the library. The drop-in workshops will be held in the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library on Monday, January 12th until 6:30 pm, Miller County - James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library on Tuesday, January 13th and at the Seminole County Public Library on Thursday, January 15th. No reservations are needed so come and learn how to download eBooks and audio books from the Southwest Georgia Regional Library System.

The Southwest Georgia Regional Library System will be closed Wednesday, December 24, 2014 through Friday, December 26, 2014 in celebration of the Christmas holidays. The Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library and the Seminole County Public Library will reopen on Saturday, December 27, 2014. The Miller County - James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library will reopen on Monday, December 29, 2014. All libraries will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015 for New Year's Day and will begin serving you in 2015 on Friday, January 2, 2015. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., all library locations will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2015. All library locations will reopen on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 to serve you. While our physical facilities are closed, you can visit our virtual library online at www.swgrl.org, where you can search the online catalog for materials, download an eBook or audio book, find resources for children, teens, and adults, and much more!

Book Clubs @ Your Library

There are two book clubs to attend in our area! The First Tuesday Book Club meets in the Miller County - James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library at 10 a.m. the first Tuesday of the month. The First Wednesday Book Club meets at the Seminole County Public Library at 10 a.m. each month. Joining is simple, read the book - which is always available from the library - and come to the club to discuss your reactions to it! Both clubs are free to join and open to the public. For December, the First Tuesday Book Club is reading Christmas Promise by Donna VanLiere. In January, the book is Defending Jacob by William Landay. The First Wednesday Book Club is discussing Skipping Christmas by John Grisham in December and Still Life with Bread Crumbs by Anna Quindlen in January.

Are you dreading those holiday crowds this season? Instead, why not donate a book in honor of that special someone in your life. Send a check to the library so we can order the item. When it arrives, a special bookplate will be placed inside recognizing your loved one. You can do this at any one of our convenient locations in Decatur, Miller, or Seminole Counties. The library also has some wonderful items for history/genealogy enthusiasts. Purchase titles such as the Jones History of Decatur County by Frank S. Jones for $40 or Bertram Ehrlich's I Remember Life in a Small Town for just $7.50 at the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library. Other titles include Prologue by Maston O'Neal, Raymond Miles' autobiography, Thank You Bainbridge, or Frederick Smallwood's autobiography, My War: Frederick Smallwood in the Battle of the Bulge During World War II for $15 each. In addition, you can purchase All in the Timing: From Operating Room to Board Room by Dr. Charles Hatcher, Jr. at the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library. Paperbacks are priced at just $16 and hardbacks are $30.
