Southwest Georgia Library for Accessible Services
The Southwest Georgia Library for Accessible Services prides itself on the many assistive devices available, some available for check out, and others for in-house use. The Perkins Brailler is a braille typewriter! The keys have corresponding braille that makes it easy for braille readers to type their own documents.
SWGLAS has two of these: one for in-house use and one that can be checked out. The in-house machine can also be used with a Braille-N-Print Slim Line, a computer card that attaches to the Brailler so that it is connected to the dot matrix printer. This way, a printed, braille copy can be made.
For information on this and other devices available, contact SWGLAS at 229-248-2680!

Why: Let me start with the disclaimer that you do not have to be a Yoga expert to have a blast with this book with your kids. This book is great for teaching the alphabet and practicing animal names, all while matching the animals with yoga poses. This is perfect for those kiddos who have a hard time sitting through an entire book. My four year old and I had so much fun going through this, and he laughed hysterically watching me trying to get into some of these poses. The illustrations are also very vivid and eye catching.

A child of books by Oliver JeffersSailing away together on a sea of words through forests of fairy tales and mountains of make-believe, two small children embark on a lifetime of imagination in an evocative prose poem story that meditates on the rewards of reading and sharing stories. By the award-winning author of Once Upon an Alphabet.
Why: The first thing that really captured my son and I about this book was the artwork. Scenes are made using text from classic books that are put into shapes like a wave. If you love to encourage imagination in your children, this is a fantastic book to do just that. It's sweetly written, whimsical, and leaves you with a warm and fuzzy feeling that's perfect for a bedtime story.
