Parks, Puppets, and Zoos--Free!
Everyone knows that libraries give users free access to books, the Internet, music, and movies, but how about activities such as a visit to Zoo Atlanta or the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, or free passes to get into any state park? All of these are available at your library. Zoo Atlanta passes are available at each library location. The pass is valid for up to two adults and two children. Simply check out a Zoo Atlanta DVD and return it to receive a Zoo Atlanta Family Pass. The Zoo Atlanta Family Pass is redeemable for one week, and you must present your library card when you go to the zoo. The pass is not valid for fee-based events or programs and may not be combined with other discounts or promotions. Standard general admission will apply to families with additional children; children must be accompanied by an adult. Passport to Puppetry passes are also available at your library. The passes are valid for up to four free museum admissions, a potential savings of up to $33 per family. Parties with children must include at least one adult. The museum provides educational fun with over 350 puppets from around the world, highlighting the fact that every civilization on our planet has its own unique form of puppetry tradition. The museum at the Center for Puppetry Arts is open Tuesdays through Sundays with hours varying upon day and programming. In addition to four free admissions, the Passport to Puppetry also entitles library users to attend a performance at the Center and/or participate in a Create-a-Puppet Workshop at a 25% discount when space is available. Complete details, including valid dates, show times, hours of operation, and reservation information are available at www.puppet.org. Locally, you may visit state parks by borrowing a free pass to these sites from the library. Georgians with public library cards can borrow a Georgia State Park Pass from the public library. These passes are good for free parking at any of the state parks throughout Georgia. Passes are checked out like a library book, usually for up to 5 days. The Park Pass exempts you from paying the daily $5 parking fee at state parks. A copy of the Guide to Georgia State Parks featuring site descriptions, photos, descriptions, and a map are all included with the Park Pass. While you are making plans for Spring Break, be sure to include the library in your itinerary and check out a Zoo Atlanta Family Pass, a Passport to Puppetry, or a Georgia State Park Pass!
