Forsyth County Public Library is excited to be part of the 2018 Pianos for Peace Festival and will have a painted piano in the Sharon Forks Library meeting room. Pianos for Peace is an annual open festival of music using colorful, painted pianos to inspire artists and unite people in the community through shared values of beauty, truth and harmony.

For three weeks this fall, Pianos for Peace will bring beautifully painted pianos to public parks and streets throughout metro Atlanta from September 1 – 22, 2018, for everyone to enjoy. As one of the largest public art display projects in Atlanta, Pianos for Peace will feature 50 pianos and impact an estimated half a million Atlantans and visitors this year.

After the festival, all Pianos for Peace will be donated to local schools, nursing homes, healthcare facilities and community centers where our volunteer artists will participate in yearlong meaningful programs making art accessible to all. The Pianos for Peace team, staff, artists, volunteers and friends work hard all year round planning this unique event.

Lambert High School’s National Art Honor Society painted the donated piano
located at the Sharon Forks Library.

Music and art are universally loved and appreciated. Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
once said, "Music is the universal language of all mankind.”  We hope to bring joy, happiness, and peace to our community through this work of art.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the Notes
that Do Not Die

Wednesday, September 19, 7:00 p.m.
Sharon Forks Library Meeting Room A

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra consists of musicians from all over the Middle East. At the core of its creation was the idea of promoting a peaceful co-existence between Israelis and Palestinians. Join Dr. Andrea Pérez Mukdsi, Assistant Professor at the University of North Georgia, as she focuses on the Orchestra’s most amazing result: creating a space for dialogue and understanding of the Middle East crisis. Let’s learn about the complexity behind this non-political project, which overcomes the fear of ‘the other’ through music making.

Originally from Salta (Argentina), Dr. Andrea Pérez
Mukdsi earned her PhD in Musical Arts from the
Argentine Catholic University in Buenos Aires. She studied symphony and opera conducting in Florence and Rome (Italy). She also has a Doctorate in Spanish Literature from the State University of New York at
Buffalo, as well as a Masters in Music Performance (KSU) and a Masters in Romance Linguistics (SUNY Buffalo). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the University
of North Georgia, where she teaches Latin American Music and Spanish Literature. She has conducted orchestras in Argentina, Italy, and the United States.
Her scholarly research focuses on music structures in contemporary Spanish Literature and women writers of the Fantastic in Latin America.
